Brandvold pleads not guilty in Pennsylvania murder case
John W. Brandvold 27 of Bynum pleaded not guilty at a West Mayfield hearing to murder and firearms charges in the March 7 fatal shooting of William L. Tully 31 of Vanport. Brandvold described a chase by Tully, a confrontation, and a warning shot before he shot Tully three times and fled. He later called state police saying he had shot a stranger who pursued him.

Chateau High science students to compete at district fair
Fifty six Chateau High School science students will participate in the district science fair at Simms on Saturday. Exhibiting projects include freshmen David Lindseth Dan McClue Mike McMullen Don Scott Tom Stott and Roberta Truchot among others with juniors and seniors also represented. Judges from several state colleges will evaluate projects from noon to 3 p.m. The fair opens to the public 3 to 6 p.m. Grand prizes awarded at 5 45 p.m. Superior projects may advance to the regional State Science Fair at Montana State University April 2 and 3.

Choteau area sportsmen may view Alaskan wildlife and fishing movies at 7 30 p.m. Monday March 22 in the Choteau High School auditorium. Outing guides Bill Pinnell and Morris Talifson, Kodiak Alaska, will present a two hour program. Sponsored by the Choteau High School Science Club. Movies also set for Fairfield Tuesday night.

Scouts win Klondike Derby at Great Falls
The Flying Eagle Patrol of Boy Scout Troop 51 Choteau won first place in the sixth annual Klondike Derby held in Great Falls. Their seven member patrol topped 387 patrols from Great Falls and Fort Benton on a 50 acre course testing first aid fire building signaling semaphore compass reading and rescuing a person from a burning building.

School Elections Set as Budgets Rise in Districts
School authorities set April 3 1965 as election day for trustee posts in the elementary and high school districts. In the elementary district four posts face voters with terms for three years and one year to fill an unexpired term. The high school district offers one seat for Les Stott. Special mill levies are proposed four in the elementary district and about 1.25 in the high school district. Elementary budget stands at 163 764 up about 6 000 from 157 686 with salaries driving increases. Teachers salaries rise from 108 460 to 116 015 including funds for possible summer study raises. Chateau High School budget up 7 285 50 over last year.

City Chamber Forms Rental Clearing Committee
The Chateau Chamber of Commerce established a housing committee to act as a rental property clearing agent. Henry Haschke Dies Friday Rites Monday
Funeral services for Henry Haschke 73 were held Monday at 2 p m in Banks Chapel with Rev C Fred Crowe officiating. He died Friday at Teton Memorial Hospital of a heart ailment. Born August 8 1891 in Germantown Wisconsin he married Jennie E Erickson in 1917 in Michigan. The couple lived in Hobson and Chateau Montana where he worked as a meatcutter until retirement. Survivors include son John Pittsburgh Pa daughter Mrs Paul Roesti Butte three brothers Charles F Libby Arthur Colton California and George Germantown three sisters Ann Fergerson Freeport Minnesota Clara Bleitz Germantown Alma Hillis Madison Wisconsin and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Harry Swanson Rex Peterson Cer Monkiman Jack Duffey Burr Huffman and Joe LaRance. Burial was in Choteau Cemetery.

Vaughn Rancher to Speak at Birthday Party
Vaughn area rancher Joyce Wohlgemuth will be guest speaker at a birthday party Saturday March 20. A Native Mourtanan resident of Vaughn most of his life he served in Europe in World War II and is a charter member of the Sun River Valley Legion Post. He was adjutant 11 years and Montana deputy commander in 1955 56. The event features a 6 p.m. cocktail hour a 7 30 p.m. roast beef dinner and a dance with Frank Diener’s orchestra.

Dutton Cardinals finished a strong season with a 3rd place in the State Class C tournament after a 72-60 loss to Manhattan in the final. Barry Fleshman led Dutton with 13 points, while St Sabre's Bob Bement scored 22 for St Sabre's. The team later defeated Darby 61-49 to set up a rematch with Rudyard, and Ken Olson topped Dutton scorers with 24 in that win.
