Coal Claims Filed near Sun River in Choateau
Three coal claims were filed in Choateau last week by Jas Ralston Jos Ralston and Wm Harris near the head of Sun River where the Teton and Big River rise. The Great Northern line survey passes very close to the claims. Ralston says a vast quantity of coal is exposed and the vein is wide and traceable for a long distance. Tests indicate unusually fine quality with full tests to follow.

Water Works Franchise Granted to Karl Ischepen
County commissioners granted Karl Ischepen a 30 year franchise to build and operate water works in Chateau. The system must supply domestic use with two streams through 2.5 inch pipes to 80 feet height and 100 feet horizontal reach. Water rates are set and water must be delivered within 18 months after fire limit adoption. A public meeting will decide fire plugs for private use.

Tragic Drowning Of Henry Wiest’s Three Year Old Son
The three year old son of Henry Wiest and his wife living twelve miles north of Chateau drowned Tuesday in the Muddy River. A family pet led to the child’s disappearance as he played in the yard, and the body was recovered downstream in the creek. The community extends sympathy to Mr and Mrs Wiest in their loss.
