Secretary Wilson of the Department of Agriculture has caused 500 suits to be filed against cattle railroads for violating the rule limiting stock on cars to 28 hours. A mass of testimony is in and more cases will follow. George R. Peck of the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul road sought to delay a case, citing it as the first offense, after being shown a docket of 65 cases against his line and departing for Chicago.
John Alexander Dowie died this morning at Shiloh house in Zion City. Attending were Judge D N Barnes and two physicians. He had held religious services each Sunday in the Shiloh house parlor all summer and winter, with about 350 faithful followers remaining.

The lodge mourns his loss praising his friendship charity and benevolence and pledges fraternal sympathy. The charter will be draped for 30 days and copies prepared for family and publication.
Secretary Garfield plans to send an Indian Inspector to Fort Peck agency this summer to discuss opening the reservation to settlement following Senator Dixons recommendation. A favorable inspector report could push opening to the next congressional session.
President Roosevelt in a letter to Secretary Garfield orders modification of last year’s withdrawal of coal lands. About 28,000,000 acres will be opened to entry immediately with more lands to follow as the geological survey completes examinations. Experts conclude the restored lands retain coal value justifying public entry.
The will of the late Jacob Schmidt has been filed for probate. It leaves all property to relatives including Carl and George Schmidt each receiving a head of cattle and several others receiving cattle or horses. Mrs. Schmidt is named executrix without bond and with authority to sell or dispose of property as she deems necessary.

Last week the board approved a 500.00 appropriation for the Teton county fair and named Beaupre of Chateau, Larson of the Bench, Wm. Cow pill of Dupuyer, Evan Jones of Conrad, and James A. Johnson of Shelby as fair commissioners. A 9000.00 appropriation was approved on condition the county raise 8250.00 by popular subscription, matching last year's effort by Chateau residents. organizers expect to easily raise the sum and ensure a successful second Teton county fair.
