Sunday evening wind caused widespread outages in Choteau with 40 minutes to over six hours without power. Montana Power manager Enoch Stroh reported 40 minutes of outages on the west side, about 1 1/2 hours on the east, and 6 hours 15 minutes on Main Street. Crews from Chateau and Fairfield worked until 2:30 a.m. repairing lines and Stroh was called again at 6 a.m. to fix a line south of Chateau near the Hanusa ranch. The wind may have driven wires together or carried debris across lines. A laundromat customer waited eight hours for service, finishing after power returned six hours later.

Farm Program Signup Urged By J Stephens
Jim Stephens president of the Montana Grain Growers Association urged farmers to sign up for the 1972 wheat and feed grain programs by Friday to protect their survival income. He noted Montana wheat certificate payments last year totaled about 66 million dollars, nearly one third of the crop value, and said participation is the only way to qualify for certificates amid poor markets. He cited dissatisfaction with conserving leases and extra payments for voluntary diversion and said MGGA seeks an extension beyond Friday, though none is assured.
