Wartime guidance lists ration stamp validity and deadlines for meats fats and sugar, gasoline tires fuel oil shoes and airplane stamps, with extension dates through March May and September 30, 1945, plus income tax filing deadlines for 1943 and 1944.
A letter by Chaplain Gordon Tollefson, son in law of George Sollid of Dutton, describes the Tarawa battle where he served among Marines. Dated December 31, the missive to his parents Rev and Mrs Sander Tollefson of Huron South Dakota appears in a church publication and was forwarded to The Acanths.
A veteran recalls the Tarawa assault as unprecedented in its hellish conditions and scale. He describes frontline combat under fire, a holy communion aboard ship, baptisms, and the steadfast faith that sustained him and 5 000 Marines under bombardment. He echoes Churchill on the sacrifice of the few.
B N Weinsheim state agent for Kansas City Life Ins Co spoke in Chateau with local agents R A Clearman and J A Swanson. He said 1943 capital rose from one to four million dollars, surplus reached 4 252 000, and insurance in force hit 528 791 000. Since 1895 the company has paid policyholders and beneficiaries 152 000 000. Ye buy war bonds and stamps.
The Choteau Dutton Lutheran Parish lists Sunday School at 10:00 and morning worship at 11:00 in Choteau with Mrs Chas Swartzel and Mrs Jens Greenli as superintendents. Evening service is at 3:00 with special music. Church activities include choir practice, Brotherhood meetings, and various study and youth groups.
