When Jefferson Valley Had Ferry and Toll Bridge Trouble
In spring 1866 floodwaters washed away Crawford and Parsons toll bridges on the Jefferson River. Crawford built a ferry with Rufus Boggs, George Bruffey, and Reynolds to carry wagons and oxen. The ferry quickly ferried up to 100 wagons daily, relieving traffic, but a later mishap with a new operator caused the line to snap and the ferry to capsize, sending four men into the river. they were rescued, and the boat was recovered and repaired for continued service.
