Resume of Legislature Progress in Montana Session
Governor Stewart spends much time on measures passed by the assembly. Of 684 bills introduced 208 reached the governor, with 80 from the senate and 128 from the house. The session proved one of Montana's most important, especially the senate's progressive passage of major measures including department consolidations, tax reforms, and state administration efficiency. Farmers gained strong influence. railroad and mining interests also featured. The Gould corporate tax bill was pivotal, taxing net income over 10 000 dollars at 1 percent. A tax commission was chosen to study assessment and revise taxation. Other notable acts include highway and farm loan laws, state hail insurance, exemption amendments, a Great Falls state elevator project, and measures affecting mortgage rights, grain labs, railroad car provisioning, and grain elevator discrimination.
