Chateau Bulldogs Triumph In Divisional Opener
The Chateau Bulldogs defeated the Big Sandy Pioneers 43 to 36 at Havre in their first divisional game. Hinman scored 14 and Dahlin 13 as Chateau led throughout before a late Pioneer rally. They advance to face the winner of the Geyser Browning game in the semifinals with an 11 game winning streak in 1947 tournament play.

George Carroll Delivers Legion Birthday Address
George A. Carroll former post and district commander and Helena resident was principal speaker at the 28th birthday of the American Legion observed in the new Legion club room at Chateau Uk teau. About 125 people attended a potluck dinner and program after his address. Carroll urged universal military training and warned against American communists while noting the Legion’s aid to the FBI in rounding up Axis agents since December 7, 1941.

Three New Homes Planned In Choteau
Choteau city council approved building permits for three houses. Dale Blakely receives permits for two 34 by 42 foot frame homes with composition shingles on the Hodgskiss site and near the Merrick studio, diagonally opposite each other. G Christman gets a 34 by 36 foot frame house on the Looney tract northeast corner. No mayor or council candidate had filed by Monday night.

Digging Up the Dirt stage comedy dazzles Chateau seniors
A large audience enjoyed the three act comedy Digging Up the Dirt staged by the Chateau high school senior class on Tuesday night. Milton Van Auken led as the hillbilly crooner sheriff while Bob Arensmeyer Lawrence Burlingame played the college students incognito as Indians. Judson Maynard filled in as archaeologist and Margaret E Taylor starred as the old spinster pursuing love. The cast delivered with clever dialogue and musical numbers interspersed, despite a weak plot.

Old Time Pioneer Ed Logan Dies in Compton California
Ed Logan, former Chateau merchant and longtime resident, died suddenly of a stroke at his Compton home on February 26. Born in Missouri, he moved to Montana as a youth, worked for Strain Brothers in Great Falls, later in Chateau, then ran a Burton Beach land operation before moving to California in 1924 to join the store trade. Survived by wife Laura, daughter Alberta, and son Walter, all residents of Compton. Known here as Logan and Howard in a past storefront.

Choteau Youth Aboard Byrd Antarctic Expedition
Ensign Currlis V Jensen USNR of Choteau served as assistant navigator on the USS Currituck during Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic expedition. The mission, with about 4000 navy personnel and scientists, photographed and mapped the continent while testing equipment in extreme cold. Jensen entered service in 1943 and completed ROTC training in 1946.
