Recall of Famous Frontier Bad Men and the Fighting Shepherdess
A Wyoming court last week sentenced Bert Lampitt to life for murder, tying the Lampitt case to Caroline Lockhart’s Fighting Shepherdess and a larger tapestry of real and fictional Western outlaws. The piece recalls Cody country legends like Poker Nell and Broncho Nell, and notes old-time figures such as Dako Joe and Slim, with reflections from Tom O Donohue about frontier gunplay and life on the range.
