Protests Against Crow Reservation Lease Rally in Billings

Resolutions from a November 1884 Billings mass meeting denounced a proposed lease of the Crow reservation western lands to a Denver syndicate. Stockmen warned of rights loss, potential conflicts with cattlemen, and possible exploitation of Indian lands by outsiders. The group urged Interior Secretary Teller to halt negotiations and circulated a petition to Congress and state delegates.

Calamity Jane's Miles City shack and wild West tale

The reminiscence recounts Calamity Jane taking a shack behind the Grey Mule saloon in Miles City in 1894 and being told to move on. The narrator recalls late night wake calls at the Histle stable, Jane’s rough but generous nature, a Deadwood jail episode, and a Buffalo Wild West show encounter where Jane stole the spotlight. The piece ends noting Jane’s later death in Deadwood and a predictably dramatic farewell for a Golden Jubilee edition.
