A reflective look back at the June flood that hit Chateau and its aftermath. residents faced loss of homes, inventories, and time, but worked to restore water and sewer, clear muck, recover a ruined hall, and rebuild parks while coping with ongoing mood and morale changes as summer faded and autumn brought cautious improvement.

Elderly May Qualify For Rural Home Loans

Albert R. Van Hemelryck Farmers Home Administrator in Teton county says seniors 62 and older in rural communities of 2500 may get 33 year loans at four percent to buy or build homes. Elderly residents may also receive smaller repair loans and FHA can loan funds to non profits for senior rental housing with private investment and FHA guarantee. Through April 30 this year FHA advanced 5.6 million for senior housing projects and over 1,200 seniors benefited nationally along with 1.25 million for senior rental housing construction.

Forest Service seeks bids to restore three Teton county trails

The U S Forest Service invites bids to restore or replace about 14.1 miles of flood damaged trails in Teton county. Trails include Blackleaf Creek, North Fork Teton, and Crazy Bruce Creek. Bids will be opened Friday June 18.

Registration for swim classes opens after the pool opens with basics for beginners and intermediates. A life saving class is announced for June 16 at 10 am, and swim team practice starts the same day 9 to 10 am and 5 to 6 pm. Falls Meatcutter Joins Choteau Store

Bob Decker 33 of Great Falls has been named meatcutter for Choteau Safeway replacing Gilge who left for Minnesota. Decker, a New Yorker by birth, came to Montana in 1955 and has worked in Havre and Great Falls. He is married with four children and will reside in Choteau, joining the Jaycees.

Chateau City Council Deliberates Outhouse Near Water Wells

Monday night the Chateau City Council discussed health concerns over an outhouse 50 feet from a water well and nearby septic tanks. City officials urged state guidance while policing issues and welcome signs for four town entrances were debated with plans to involve local groups and partners.

Teton County Rest Home Granted 90 Day Provisional License

State Board of Health granted a 90 day provisional license at its May 22 meeting with conditions to meet minimum requirements fire and safety fixes and secure resources for new facilities. A May 18 inspection found persistent deficiencies from 1964 and notes the older two story section is unsuitable for long term occupancy and must be removed. A plan for a 20 bed nursing home could connect to the boarding wing but offers no future expansion.

Mrs Neumann 67 Dies After Long Illness Near Power

Mrs Adolph Amalie Neumann 67 of Power died Friday night at her home after a long illness. Born October 26 1897 in Kolno Poland she married Adolf Neumann in Konin Poland in 1924. The couple fled to East Germany then West Germany before settling in Power. She is survived by her husband four sons Adolf Jr and Siegfried in Great Falls Helmut and Emil in Power a daughter Rudie Alice Giese West Germany a brother in Germany and 14 grandchildren Funeral services were held today at 2 at Zion Lutheran Church Power with Rev Donald Thuss officiating burial followed at Highland Cemetery Great Falls.

Emma Mary Goerig, 80, died yesterday in Te ton Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Woodland Wash. Born October 18, 1884 in Camp Dennison Ohio. Married to William Goerig in Woodland in 1927. Came to Montana in 1958 living at Black Eagle until 1961 then Fort Shaw. Survived by Rosemary Bosch of Fort Shaw and nine grandchildren.
