A reflective look back at the June flood that hit Chateau and its aftermath. residents faced loss of homes, inventories, and time, but worked to restore water and sewer, clear muck, recover a ruined hall, and rebuild parks while coping with ongoing mood and morale changes as summer faded and autumn brought cautious improvement.
Albert R. Van Hemelryck Farmers Home Administrator in Teton county says seniors 62 and older in rural communities of 2500 may get 33 year loans at four percent to buy or build homes. Elderly residents may also receive smaller repair loans and FHA can loan funds to non profits for senior rental housing with private investment and FHA guarantee. Through April 30 this year FHA advanced 5.6 million for senior housing projects and over 1,200 seniors benefited nationally along with 1.25 million for senior rental housing construction.
The U S Forest Service invites bids to restore or replace about 14.1 miles of flood damaged trails in Teton county. Trails include Blackleaf Creek, North Fork Teton, and Crazy Bruce Creek. Bids will be opened Friday June 18.
Ronnie Hughes earns best all around cowgirl honors with first in cloverleaf barrel race and breakaway roping and second in cow cutting. Sandra Gollehon takes third in barrel race second in breakaway roping and third in pole bending. Jim Larson tops boys with first in calf tie-down.
Mr and Mrs Chester Abbott invite friends to the wedding of their daughter Detra to Andy Anderson. The ceremony will take place at Chateau Methodist Church on Saturday June 19 at 8 p.m.
Choteau prepares for a new physician as Dr. Donald Borshardt of Glendive is set to start practice around July 1. Dr. A A McAuley will move to California later this month, according to Arnold Hanusa of the Teton Memorial Hospital Board.
Registration for swim classes opens after the pool opens with basics for beginners and intermediates. A life saving class is announced for June 16 at 10 am, and swim team practice starts the same day 9 to 10 am and 5 to 6 pm. Season tickets cost 15 dollars for families and 6 dollars for adults. youth pricing applies. Tickets available at Citizens State Bank Rex's Thriftway pool office or Lions Club members.
Bob Decker 33 of Great Falls has been named meatcutter for Choteau Safeway replacing Gilge who left for Minnesota. Decker, a New Yorker by birth, came to Montana in 1955 and has worked in Havre and Great Falls. He is married with four children and will reside in Choteau, joining the Jaycees.
Monday night the Chateau City Council discussed health concerns over an outhouse 50 feet from a water well and nearby septic tanks. City officials urged state guidance while policing issues and welcome signs for four town entrances were debated with plans to involve local groups and partners.
State Board of Health granted a 90 day provisional license at its May 22 meeting with conditions to meet minimum requirements fire and safety fixes and secure resources for new facilities. A May 18 inspection found persistent deficiencies from 1964 and notes the older two story section is unsuitable for long term occupancy and must be removed. A plan for a 20 bed nursing home could connect to the boarding wing but offers no future expansion.
Andy Jenson and Verne Murr open a full service store at the former site of Andy's Implément and Appliance, selling GE and Admiral appliances and tires including U S Royal, with on farm tractor tire service. Jenson and Murr, longtime Chateau residents, plan a July grand opening and emphasize strong customer service.
Chateau High School announces its seniors top the final six week honor list with 10 students on the roll. Among 35 named across six weeks and semester lists, 28 are girls and 7 are boys, with notable names including Carol Miller Karen Miller and Grant Gormley.
Budget preparation timelines outline preliminary budgets due in July for Teton County, Chateau, and school districts. Public inspection occurs after July 10 with hearings starting July 26 for county budgets and August hearings for final mill levies. City budgets open for view after filing July 25 with final levies set August 9.

Mrs Adolph Amalie Neumann 67 of Power died Friday night at her home after a long illness. Born October 26 1897 in Kolno Poland she married Adolf Neumann in Konin Poland in 1924. The couple fled to East Germany then West Germany before settling in Power. She is survived by her husband four sons Adolf Jr and Siegfried in Great Falls Helmut and Emil in Power a daughter Rudie Alice Giese West Germany a brother in Germany and 14 grandchildren Funeral services were held today at 2 at Zion Lutheran Church Power with Rev Donald Thuss officiating burial followed at Highland Cemetery Great Falls.
Friends of Mr Leo Pierre and Mrs Pierre are invited to a 25th wedding anniversary reception at the Pierre home on Sunday June 20 from 2 to 5 PM.
Emma Mary Goerig, 80, died yesterday in Te ton Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Woodland Wash. Born October 18, 1884 in Camp Dennison Ohio. Married to William Goerig in Woodland in 1927. Came to Montana in 1958 living at Black Eagle until 1961 then Fort Shaw. Survived by Rosemary Bosch of Fort Shaw and nine grandchildren. Zwerneman Mortuary handles arrangements.
Tuesday June 15 announcements note mailed orders and donations accepted at Bob's Ford Sales. Mrs Dellno expresses optimism that the display could become an annual event. Mr and Mrs Bud Moulton Stewart and Gordon visited Mis Lys for a Postal Carrier convention. Moulton serves as association president.
W David Jones and Mrs Wm R Jones of Pendrey Montana will be among 72 candidates to receive the Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Oregon Medical School commencement Friday June 11 at 8 pm in the medical school auditorium. Dr Branford P Millar president of Portland State College will deliver the principal address. The class will be presented by Dr W E Baird dean of the Medical School to Dr Arthur S Flemming president of the University of Oregon who will confer degrees.
