Last Friday at Elberty Theatre Nelson Eddy introduced newsreels featuring King and Queen of the British Empire at the Canada war memorial dedication. The Squalus rescue depicted with a diving bell transfer, romance stories, and the dramatic tension of families awaiting news.
A witness reflects on the Squalus disaster, noting a woman fainted with joy or grief as news reached her man was among the doomed. Survived by wife Sylvia Brown and three children Norris Kenneth of Libby Robert James of Kalispell Doris Adams of Los Angeles. also four grandchildren, brother Earnest Adams Redmond Oregon. sister Nannie Hayden Los Angeles. Burial plans note his Baptist church membership.
Mrs. Mary Torgerson known as Grandma, born Mary Nielsen in Denmark in 1864, died at home here Saturday June 3 after years of illness. She came to America in 1876, lived in Chicago and North Dakota before moving to Teton County in 1926. Survived by five children and several grandchildren, funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the M. I. church with interment in Chateau cemetery beside her husband Godtfred Torgerson who died two years earlier.
The county weed control program will proceed as before with county funding for roadside spraying and farmers paying for land treatments. White top and leafy spurge are highlighted for attention in the next two weeks. Follow up farm accounting meetings led by J. C. Bower will be held at Dutton on June 13 and Pendroy on June 14 for farmers who received books this spring.

A letter from Louise Bernier of Augusta praises Acantha want ads for prompt trades. The writer notes an ad reached readers Friday morning and quickly sparked the desired calf trade, asking not to rerun the ad but indicating potential use in the fall when more calves arrive.
The county board of educational examiners reports 44 examinees with 20 girls and 24 boys passing the seventh and eighth grade tests. Edith Stormwind leads with 97, followed by Charles Parkett and Margaret Loch, among others, while multiple pupils earned diplomas and several schools fielded top attainers. A list also notes perfect attendance by many pupils across numerous schools.
Charlies S McDonald a Montana banker and sheepman died unexpectedly at home June 5 in Chateau. A large crowd attended his funeral at the Masonic temple, and he had helped found the Stockmen State Bank and owned a vast Teton ranch. Born Memphis Missouri 1864 he came to Montana with C G Cooper in 1881 and built a life as rancher banker and legislator in Teton County. His survivors include wife son daughter and several siblings with deep local ties.
A drowning tragedy on the Missouri river underscores the need for supervised swimming facilities. Chateau plans a fully supervised pool opening Saturday June 10 with two lifeguards on duty and free morning lessons. Stan Smith returns as pool manager.Temperature controlled water heated with hot and cold showers, daily chlorine testing, and strict sanitary measures will be in place. City canvass seeks season ticket sales with a family pass at 5 dollars and individual adult and children's rates.
Business men of Chateau organize free dances every Saturday night in the park pavilion starting June 17. Stan Smith's orchestra returns with rehearsals underway. lineup includes Smith on trumpet and saxophonist Rex Peterson with Claire Hensely on piano and Kenny Thompson on trumpet.
The Chautauqua committee met to plan the program and set the event dates. A. L. Johnson of Greenfield was elected president with Mrs. Dorothy Boussard as vice president and Harry Laubach of Diamond Valley as secretary treasurer. The festival runs October 20 21 22.
