Cornell Hotel Change as Schoonmaker Couple Take Over

Mr and Mrs S P Schoonmaker formerly of Seattle have purchased the Cornell hotel from Mr and Mrs E Rory Poore owners for 112 years. The Schoonmakers plan to operate the hotel with Elsie Holombo continuing as cafe manager. Poore family remains local and will keep a home in Chateau. Purchase price not disclosed. The note also references agricultural mobilization and occupational deferments under Selective Service.

Nordhagen Recalled for Active Duty at Falls AFB

Capt John O Nordhagen of Choteau recalled to active duty at Great Falls Air Force Base Montana. World War II pilot in the Asiatic Pacific theater awarded the DFC and Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters. He is a Civilian crop spraying service owner and a member of American Legion VFW and IOOF.

Tot Toggery Store Set to Open This Saturday

Not Toggery, soon renamed Tot Toggery, will open at noon this Saturday July 28 with free coffee and doughnuts for guests. Mr and Mrs Leigh Nett of Choteau will manage the shop located in the former Montana Power Co. quarters next to Teton Abstract Co. The store will offer children's wear gifts and toys for ages from one day to six years with lines including Peters Weatherbird shoes and California dresses.

Barbaragoda Wins Moose Family Hour Radio Talent Show

Barbara Zgoda, a 117 year old sop rano, won the Moose Family Hour talent contest broadcast from Choteau hosted by KMON. Four audition winners competed, prizes were awarded by Chateau businessmen, and the ap­plause meter determined the winner.

Rural Telephone Plans Progress in Fairfield Area

The Three Rivers Telephone executive committee met with Howard Connell to finalize applications and maps for a rural system. All documents were sent to Washington on July 1 for approval. if approved, engineering will start and construction will follow. Residents may still apply and have their names kept in an inactive file. A key map of applicants is posted in Connell's office for review.

City Sees Sewers In Good Shape As Fall Work Sways

City engineer John Hall reported the sewer system is operating free and not overloaded ahead of proposed drainage work in Chateau this fall. At the July council meeting, seven building permits were approved including additions, relocations, a greenhouse sign, garages, a storage tank, and a residence move in various additions and blocks.

Editors Complete Western Tour With Local Visit

Four travel editors from metropolitan newspapers finished a two week western trip with a Sunday afternoon visit to Choteau. They joined a dinner hosted by the Choteau Chamber of Commerce. Cowboy Band Makes Initial Appearance On Mounted Ensemble

Chateau debuts its mounted cowboy band on downtown streets. The group, led by Dr. C W Boussard, rehearses nightly at the rodeo grounds and plans to perform at the North Montana State fair opening parade in Great Falls on Aug 6. Delegates Attend Legion Auxiliary Missoula Convention

Delegates to the 31st annual America Legion auxiliary convention of Montana gathered in Missoula from July 16 to 18. Attendees included Mrs. C. S. McDonald Mrs. Carl Olson Mrs. Jay H. Robinson and Edith Tesch. They joined a joint memorial service on July 15 and Mrs. Robinson also attended the 40 and 8 banquet on July 14 where national auxiliary president Mrs. Willis Reed spoke. Business sessions filled the three days.

Women Attend Tuesday Cooking School

A Montana Power cooking school led by Lois Colemen drew about 150 women at the Masonic Temple in Chateau. Colemen spoke on maximizing electric stove use, Clarence Kommers of Montana Power showed a lighting film, and local dealers showcased appliances with 24 five dollar awards. Winners received meals and prizes amid praise from Chateau merchants.

X ray Unit Visit Requires Many Sponsors

The Montana Tuberculosis association plans an x ray mobile unit visit to Tetor county at the end of November and early December. Dutton Chateau Fairfield Power Pendroy and Greenfield are included in the tentative schedule. Local organizers and sponsoring groups are urged to contact Mrs. Buchanan promptly to assist with planning and to discuss the organization at a September meeting.
