Old Cemetery to be Fenced by Thompson Funds in Helena
Billionaire William Boyce Thompson will spend about 10000 to fence the Benton Avenue Cemetery in Helena with wrought iron or steel gates and heavy granite posts. The effort follows prior gifts to Mt Marie cemetery in Butte and a Virginia City cemetery, with architects’ designs accepted and work expected this summer. The Benton cemetery, long unpaid for, has alternated between county and city control before the Cemetery Association took over.
