Car Hits County Shop After Curve Misjudgment
At 11 oclock last Sunday a southbound car swerved around the courthouse curve and struck the county shop building, heavily damaging the Plymouth. R E Malsor soil conservation employee at Chateau paid a $100 fine and 30 day suspended sentence for reckless driving in Judge James Sulgrove's court. Officer Ed McFerran said the car zigzagged and skidded 164 feet. Malsor suffered minor injuries including a lip cut. Joe McKnight of Chateau forfeited a $10 bond for indecent exposure on July 4 city streets.

Freezeout Lake Drainage Ceremony Opens Landlocked Lake
State Fish and Game Department Greenfield Irrigation District Commissioners and Teton Soil Conservation Committee officials conducted ceremonies at Freezeout Lake last Friday night at 8 o'clock. They blew up the dike around the outlet pipe and opened the deck, allowing water to begin flowing from the landlocked lake for the first time. The 1953 Freezeout project included digging a canal from Priest Lake to the Teton River and installing control structures at Priest Lake to regulate water levels.

Chateau Fourth of July Rodeo Draws 3000 Fans Despite Rain
The Chateau celebration attracted over 3,000 rodeo spectators across two days despite rain threats. American Legion rodeo drew nearly as many as last year with 135 contestants in six events. Cow cutting and bareback bronc riding thrilled attendees as the parade and dances drew large crowds. profits exceeded $500 for Teton Memorial hospital aided by donated musicians.

Swimming lessons registration begins at Chateau pool
Registration for swim lessons at the Chateau pool opens this Friday and Saturday from 10 to 12. Lessons start next Tuesday and cover beginners and intermediates plus junior and senior lifesaving and an adult class if interest grows.
