The Chateau Acantha receives several reader pleas from Montana and Ohio in December 1943 and January 1944. Writers request back copies and note subscription delays amid holiday mail, with one letter recounting past homesteading ties and wartime memories involving Art Farrar.
A fire on Hay Stack Butte, sparked by sparks from the Gilsinger shod camp, damaged several small hay stacks and pasture. The blaze jumped buildings and snow banks, but sheds and large stacks largely survived. Sheep were moved, cattle gathered, and volunteers from Augusta helped fight the fire as dry grass and sparse snow created tinderbox conditions.
County records list patents and deeds filed January 15 to 22 including U S to Pearson Armstrong Marshall Stengrimson, numerous warranty deeds names such as Gibson Rogers Van Horn Tomlinson Kinsley Hitchcock Gault and others. Assignments of royalty and contracts for deed also appear along with an order confirming sale of real estate to C Wilson Gray and estate actions in progress.
Corr Jack Jensen left for Idaho, Opal and children from Great Falls visit home folks, Paul Kropp and family retired from Bozeman and visited relatives. Ray Robinson returned on 10 day furlough after graduating at Scott Field as radio man. Everett Breding and Gus Heyer visited Great Falls, Mrs. Henry Weist hosted H D club.
Mrs. Beck and Mrs. John Toenyes hosted visitors at the Toenyes home. Several families shared dinners and bridge games at Paulus and Toenyes homes. Math Toeckes and others vacationed at Camas Hot Springs while Headingtons visited Decorah for news of a ill father. Farmers Union met at the schoolhouse with cards played afterward.
