A major fire in Great Falls started in the Paris Dry Goods store after 7 pm and destroyed the Paris building and six neighboring businesses. Total losses reach about 475000 with Paris stock and fixtures around 250000, Davis Jewelry 40000, Kenyon & Wheeler 40000, Karcher 5000, and other shops largely salvaging stocks. Firemen fought the blaze as flames spread from basement explosion to adjacent structures, all owned by Paris Dry Goods Company.

State loans to Montana farmers reach $2.4 million
Helena January 18 the board of land commissioners reports that farm loans totaling 2 400 870 have been made since the system started. There are 1 098 mortgages on record and 57 unfinished mortgages totaling 129 300 placed on record. Applications pending total 657 with 1 521 000 in loans requested. Investment on hand 430 025 30. December investments reached 166 527 84 400 in farm loans 6 000 in US bonds and the rest in school bonds.

H Gilcreast of Kearney Nebraska and Denton purchased the Jacob Hein ranch about five miles southwest of Pendroy. The 10 000 acre tract sold for about 200000 through the Millspaugh agency. Commercial Club Discusses Railroad Ownership Opposition
The Commercial club met at the Chateau club for a ten day on call session to discuss current questions. City Council Cuts Marshals Office to Sheriff's Control
At a Monday special meeting the city council voted to dispense with its town marshals by transferring duties to the sheriff's office. The move saves about 1400 dollars yearly after saloon closures reduced revenue. Further cuts are to be decided, a plan echoed after a Municipal League meeting in Helena.
