About 50 area businesspeople and spouses attended the Choteau Chamber of Commerce dinner. Outgoing president Tom McCartney reviewed yearly chamber accomplishments including promotions, events, and community projects. Guest speaker Kenneth Rustad, back from Bolivia, discussed conditions there with a slideshow.
Mrs. J. Viola Herak, chairman of the Montana ASC State committee, reviews 1964 emergency ACP activities. She notes natural disasters—floods droughts fires hurricanes and earthquakes—made 1964 busy for emergency conservation funding to restore damaged land to productive use. Allocations totaled 10,825,000 across multiple states with specific flood relief in Montana and Kentucky.
Edmond Marion Peters 94 died Friday at Teton County Rest Home after a month long illness. Funeral Tuesday in Banks Chapel with Rev. C Fred Crowe officiating. Born Oct 28 1870 in Wetmore Kansas he moved to Idaho and settled Pendroy in 1910. He married Mae Cause July 5 1909 in Sand Point Idaho. Survived by a foster son Roland Peters foster grandchildren and foster great grandchildren. Ten siblings preceded him in death. Pallbearers listed.
A donkey basketball game is scheduled in the Choteau High School gym tonight at 7 30. The event is sponsored by the Choteau Future Farmers of America chapter. A girls game precedes, featuring the sophomore class against the senior class. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students.
Chicago Cub pitcher Larry Jackson will address sports enthusiasts at Choteau High School auditorium Monday January 25 at 8 p.m. Bill McCauley chairs the event and says there is no charge and the public is welcome. Jackson had been scheduled for an athletic banquet last year but bad weather delayed his arrival.
Mr and Mrs Ernest W Carlson of Chateau invite friends and relatives to their son E Wayne Carlson wedding to Judith Ann Ogle daughter of Mr and Mrs Franklin G Ogle of Helena on Saturday February 6 at 7 pm in Trinity Lutheran Church A reception in the church parlors will follow the ceremony.
A county ASC meeting January 7 in the Chateau courthouse drew all 39 community committee members. Topics included the 1965 Feed Grain Program and a new farm measurement method. Office staff work on series photos to aid producers in reporting acreage, a move to simplify procedures and cut costs. No wheat allotment will be lost in 1965 due to under or over planting, benefiting livestock producers.
Rep Magnus Aasheim a Sheridan county Democrat will speak at 8 p m Monday Jan 25 to the Teton County Democratic Club in the Choteau courthouse. He is a Montanan native in his fourth term and formerly a school administrator and teacher now chairs the House education committee. County Democrats consider streamlining party organization and possibly merging the county and club bodies with Rep Gordon McOmber to join.
The Teton County Extension Service will hold eight winter community meetings next month for men and women. Topics include soils and fertilizer crops and weeds livestock marketing and home management. Mrs EB Ro O'Neil will visit her daughter in law and family at Mt Ally Md and stay about two months. The note says she will be gone for that period.
The Chateau High School Drama Club stages three one act plays Sunday January 24 in the school auditorium. Florence Unlimited a comedy features Cathy Corey Jolene Ramaker Georgia Bilbro Karen Murphy Myrna Pierre and Judith Morey with Darlene Wiebrock as student director. Ladies of the Mop a second comedy stars Karen Peck Karen Buchanan Micki Cook Susan Anderson with Carol Alzheimer directing. The Right Kind of House a drama centers on an elderly woman trying to sell an old house with cast Virginia Baker Rachel Field Bette Jo Delino Sandra Fettig Pam Erickson and Diane McClue as student director. One play will be submitted to spring contests. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Staff adviser Jo.
Olsen reports Pee Teton Memorial Hospital suffered a 1964 loss of 12082.25 due to floods and lower patient load. Lutheran Homes contributed about 4000 to restore the basement pre flood. Occupancy averaged 32 percent with 3159 patient days and 79 births. Collections rose to 101.3 percent. rate increases and new surgical support announced.
Mayor D P Fabrick told the Chateau City Council that Teton county has taken action on flood controls for the Teton River north of town. Army Corps of Engineers plans for a river channel project are being drawn with work to begin in spring and possible federal aid unclear.
Teton county commissioners postpone any nursing home plans or contracts with Teton Valley Homes until Feb 1 or until proof of good faith. A contract up to three years and eight dollars per patient daily. January minutes show appointments and securities approved, plus routine business.

Sharon L. Alzheimer of Choteau is among 53 Montana State University autumn quarter students with straight A’s. Other area honorees include Terrance Miles Nett Augusta Roberta Ann Crocker Neal Carl Wedum Chateau Warren Stanley Schultz Eileen Joy Smith and Colleen Adams Fairfield. Eligibility requires 54 grade points with a 3.0 index or 42 grade points with a 3.5 index.
The Montana American Dairy Association holds its annual district meeting at 11 am Monday January 25 in the Fairfield American Legion hall. The agenda includes a hay and watering machines report, promotion of milk and dairy product use, and activities of state and national organizations. District officers will be elected.
VFW and auxiliary members from Howard E. Anderson Post 4605 attended District 2 winter convention in Great Falls earlier this month. Chester Corey served as commander and led discussions on veterans affairs and legislative matters with Mrs Lorena Drugge and Mrs Gertie Hughes representing the Chateau auxiliary.
Teton County Red Cross will host first aid training at the county courthouse starting Tuesday January 36 at 7 30 p m. The 12 hour course for beginners and a refresher are planned. Friday guests at the Arensmeyer home included Mr and Mrs Warren Taylor Bridger Mr and Mrs Cecil Taylor Falls Georgia Helzer Belfry Mrs Q Seaton Dennis and Scott plus Mr and Mrs Gale Isakson.
The United Nations announced the sale of an 18 acre tract in New York. Details on buyers and exact location were not disclosed in the brief notice.
Dutton lost 59-55 to Belt at Dut ton while Power fell 56-49 to Cascade. Dutton trailed 13-11 after one, 31-22 at half, 43-39 after three, with 16 points in the final period. Ken Olson led Dutton with 16 points followed by Brad Fleshman 13 and Barry Fleshman 11. Cascade’s Jerin scored 15 as Burgmaier 20 led Cascade over Power.

David Shannon of Choteau High School joins three Montana students in the Honors Group of the National Science Talent Search. The nationwide group of 300 advances toward 24th Science Talent Search top winners and a Washington DC institute with judges awarding 34 250 in scholarships. Finalists will be named January 27. Shannon is the son of Mr and Mrs Dave Shannon. Al Finley is his science teacher.
David Shannon was installed master councilor of the Chateau DeMolay chapter last week. Ron Swartzel served as installing officer in public ceremonies January 11. Mrs. Jim Smith and Rev and Mrs Dick Wang of Great Falls attended a community concert by Bob Smithsted in Bozeman last Wednesday. Mrs Smith visited her daughter Ruth a student at M S C before returning home Thursday.
The Chateau American Legion Post announces a free dance and midnight lunch for 1965 Legion and Auxiliary members on Saturday starting at 10 p.m. in the redecorated Legion Club. Commander Doug Crary notes monthly events to revitalize the Chateau unit, with a Feb 20 stage party and an upcoming March birthday party to be scheduled.
Mrs Hazel DeSchon of Sun River Canyon displays canyon scenes and flowers at the Villager gallery through January 30. The Chateau artist has painted for fifteen years and is featured this season in a display of her landscape work.
Choteau town basketball squad defeated Fairfield 76 to 70 on Sunday. Bill Rogers scored 25 points to lead the locals, with Mike Snyder adding 23, Roger Kelly 14, and Jim Rogers 10 as key contributors.
Choteau high lost to Cut Bank 69 59 Friday and Conrad 75 60 Saturday. Loren Sasser led Choteau with 20 points against Cut Bank while Gormley added 11. In the Conrad game Gormley had 17 and McLaughlin 14 as Choteau trailed at halftime and faded late. The Bulldogs resume home play against Shelby and Sunburst.
