Montana Adopts State Income Tax Law With Filing Deadline
The 1933 Montana income tax law, approved last March, takes effect this year with taxes due on 1933 income. Rates start at 1 percent for the first 2000 dollars and rise to 4 percent beyond 6000, with exemptions of 1000 dollars for individuals and 2000 for heads of families plus 300 per dependent. The filing date is April 15 with a 1 filing fee, and penalties range from 300 to 1000 for frauds and late payments, plus increase clauses for delinquency. Officials urge local newspapers to publicize details and expect forms to be supplied by the state board of equalization.
