The Hanusa Agency has changed its name to WestMont Agency per senior member John L. Dunckel. The rebranding follows owner deliberation and company expansion including a branch office in Big Fork.
Chateau Lions Club begins selling Birthday Calendars with orders due by January end. Past buyers will be contacted. new residents may use a coupon in this paper or contact Lions members or chair Tom Bob Nauck. Calendars cost 2 dollars and include birthdates for immediate family and wedding anniversaries. extra calendars are 1 dollar each. Organizations can request meeting reminders by Dick Nordhagen. Friends of Mr and Mrs Bar ney McClue invite they pottery supper in their honor Sunday January twenty fifth at 5 p m Chateau pavilion. McClues sold bakery to James Scotts after twenty eight years of operation. Call 466-2303 or 466-2798 to attend. No gifts requested.
Effective January 1 the Acantha raised yearly subscriptions from five dollars twenty cents to five dollars fifty cents. The higher price reflects increased postal and newsprint costs and may lead to future rises, though the paper aims to keep the rate as low as possible for readers.
The Teton County Local Government Study Commission schedules two public meetings in January. On Jan 22 at 7 30 p m at Pendrey Community Hall and Jan 27 at 7 30 p m in Dutton residents may hear progress reports and offer suggestions on county government structure. Members Tom Stott Rod Hanson and Larry Maurer attend.
The 1975 top stories include a second major flood 11 years after Chateau’s flood, heavy April snow, and a wet spring that flooded bridges and roads near Choteau. Water rose in basements and towns faced widespread infrastructure damage while the hospital issue lingered through the year amid political shifts.
Funeral services for Eugene Foster were held January 9 in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. He had health care at Sunset Terrace Nursing Home and lived at Skyline Lodge Chateau before moving to Coeur d'Alene in 1947. Survivors include daughters Dorothy Goetz Bernice Cook Hazel Wood Opal Hollar, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The Bulldogs beat Browning 54 3 to seize sole lead in Northern A. They also defeated Simms 43 21 and Fairfield 48 9 in non conference action. Upcoming Friday and Saturday road tri meets at Fort Benton and Shelby include strong wrestlers Will Rambo and Mark Schilling.
Jim Ramaker reported flood water nearly entered his home all day Friday as ice jams formed on Spring Creek. Ice covered city park grounds and flowed past GTA Elevator, flooding roadways and the tourist parking near ball diamonds. City officials noted no further problems Monday and culverts were checked for free flow.
Choteau edges Browning 62-60 in a tight showdown to boost their Northern A record. Nordhagen and Scott sparked the late clincher as the Bulldogs upset favored Browning with key second-half runs. The win adds to Chteau's two weekend victories, improving mood before a Friday home game versus Shelby.
Glen Nicolai a certified public accountant from Great Falls has opened a branch office in Olsen Agency Choteau He works Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will move to full time when business supports it Nicolai has served the area for two months from the Choteau branch He was born reared near Great Falls and earned a 1972 University of Montana degree.
Henry Bouma of Choteau was ordained to the gospel ministry on January 7 and will serve as pastor of the Reformed Congregation in Choteau. Witnessing ministers included Harold Ross of Great Falls L R Shelton Jr of Litchfield Minn and John Freisema of Mount Zion Rock Valley Iowa. Bouma has preached at Deer Lodge state prison nursing homes the Great Falls Rescue Mission and in Choteau and spoke to a crowd in Edmonton Alberta. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Louie Bouma and grew up in Choteau.
Montana counties struggle with a new vehicle licensing system in use this year. The process is confusing about relicensing timing, and owners with multiple vehicles worry about extra courthouse trips. Representative Rex Manuel notes taxpayers can request the same anniversary date to license all their vehicles.
