First places in the county Washington bicentennial declamatory contest were won by Arnold Neiswender of South Liberty and Edith Goodall of Diamond Valley. Neiswender spoke on Washington and Education, Goodall on Our Washington, with 15 pupils competing across two grade groups.

The S. and B. Self Service Grocery Inc of Great Falls plans to open a shop in the Hentges building on Main Avenue about March first. The firm also aims to launch stores in Shelby Browning and Conrad with capitalization at 50000 and 15000 paid in. Directors listed are A W Sherman and Edythe Garrison. Young Man Erickson Dies After Lingering Illness
Edwin Harold Erickson aged 20 died after a week in Maynard hospital from flu pneumonia. He had heart trouble and rheumatism, lived in Teton county, attended county high school, and was loved by classmates. Born August 11 1911, he leaves parents and four siblings. Funeral held at Bynum Methodist Church with Roberts Funeral Home in charge.

Community observes Washington Bicentennial in Mr Connor’s 80th birthday
Sixteen friends gathered Friday night at the home of Charles H Connor to celebrate his 80th birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs A B Guthrie and Dr and Mrs Henry Beaupre among others. Connor, born 1852 near Springfield, traced his westward move from Bismark to Glendive and Miles City before settling in Choteau in 1893.

Home Made Doughnuts Dance Planned by Chateau Club
Plans are underway for a leap year dance at the Chateau Woman's club next Monday under a committee. A free lunch of home made doughnuts and coffee will be served and tickets priced at 50 cents per person. Proceeds go to the club treasury to fund another payment on the new library building costing the club 1450 dollars, with the ladies to invite the men and foot the bills.

Miss Joy Graves sister of Mrs. Obert Peterson and Wm Roost of Kalispell were married on Tuesday in Whitefish. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. C. P. Daanes, Presbyterian pastor.

Washington birthday observance drew large crowds in Chateau with a 2:30 p.m. community program at the high school auditorium. The program featured a band concert, colors, a flag pledge, student glee clubs, and remarks by Loy Molumby on Washingtons leadership, common sense, and farming life.
