St Marys River Water Rights Debate and Irrigation Plan
A discussion argues waters arising in a community belong to that community and should go to the nearest lands. It critiques diverting St Marys water for Milk river and Marias projects, claiming costs and land value losses outweigh benefits. It warns that diverting water to Milk river valley or Havre would deprive other fertile lands and Canadians’s rights. It favors using St Marys waters on nearby lands and reserving Marias and Milk rivers for Milk river valley, to maximize reclaimable acres at lower cost.
