Grain woods can be polished with equal parts boiled linseed oil turpentine and vinegar. Open grained woods need oil free polish. Beeswax with turpentine is used for dark woods, with a dash of burnt sienna oil paint to prevent film. For very dirty wood a hot wash of turpentine linseed oil and boiling water is advised. Montana wintering beef herds is reviewed with results showing no advantage to high protein or high winter gains. Recommendations include feeding very thin cows to gain 10 to 15 pounds to offset calving loss. Cows in fair condition need maintenance, fleshly cows may lose weight but calves remain large if spring feed is ample.
