The Choteau High School Bulldogs defeated Fort Benton 66 49 and beat Big Sandy 67 61 in nonconference games. Dan Hansen led the scoring with a spree against Big Sandy, while Roger Kelly sparked the Fort Benton win with strong defense and timely baskets. Kelly scored 12 in the Fort Benton contest, and Hansen totaled 3s and layins against Big Sandy as Chateau-built momentum carried both ends of the weekend.
The Chateau Antlers face the Great Falls Flamingo Club in the Great Falls Central Roundup Town Team Invitational Friday November 28 at 7 30 p m in the GFC gymnasium. Great Falls top squads from Simms Augusta Conrad and Choteau join three day event with Malmstrom AFB and Cascade Electric among others.

Choteau High School junior varsity basketball split results over the weekend losing to Fort Benton 53 to 52 then beating Big Sandy 70 to 65 in overtime. Gormley led Choteau with 18 points in both games. Fort Benton’s Johnson scored 25 in the loss, while O Dellno and Gormley each posted 18 for Choteau in the Saturday matchup.
The 1963 Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation program will be led by newly elected ASC committeemen starting January 1. Lyall Schaefer says the county and state AC programs allow flexible cost sharing to tailor county needs. The plan may offer incentives for soil, water, forest, and wildlife practices and involve state and federal agencies in developing county wide cost sharing.

Taylor Motors Co of Chateau won the Annual Men's Invitational Handicap at A K Lanes, rolling 3 061 pins, besting last year. Jim Kelly of Great Falls led singles with 1402 and 249 high scratch, earning 15 dollars. Jersey Gold and Dairy Gold followed in team standings with several Great Falls clubs among top entries. A total of 36 teams competed in the team event.
Mrs G C Culay formerly of Choteau died of cancer in Big Horn County. Mr and Mrs Core lived in Choteau for many years with the wife serving as postmaster. Services were held Monday. Survivors include two sons Clift and Jack, both of Greybull.
William Gockel aged 78 died in Teton County Rest Home in Choteau on Saturday after a brief illness. Survivors include his daughter and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Funeral services for Claude Leo Red Connole 53 were held Saturday at St Josephs Catholic Church with Rev Thomas Gannon officiating. He died of a heart attack last Tuesday. Born July 28, 1909 in Butte he moved to Chateau with his mother Catherine three years ago. Survivors include his mother a brother Warren S and sister Mrs Margaret Warneke all of Chateau. Attending from distance included Mr and Mrs Emmett Neirer and Howard Neirer of Butte Willard Nauman Conrad and Burt and Junior Jannusch of Dupuyer. Pallbearers were Paul Rose Billy Briggs Joe Fallon George Porter Dick Rose and Roy Sheble.
Vehicle license plates go on sale Wednesday January 2. The last Montana issue was in 1959. Low numbered plates are expected to sell quickly with sales easing as the deadline nears. Out of state titles and lien copies must be submitted before license receipt. Fewer missile workers in the county likely reduce total sales versus last year.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Augusta Community Church for Mrs. Carrie Anne Bean with Rev. Richard K Gustafson officiating. Burial followed at Augusta Cemetery. Born in Cornwall England June 11 1871 she came to the United States in 1879 living at Helena before moving to Flatcreek area where she resided until her death. She was survived by two daughters Scandle Bean and Mrs Elton.
A Montana college student named Mtandish arrived in Chateau on Sunday seeking new studies and experiences. Local officials welcomed the visitor and noted plans for inquiry and engagement with community programs.
Shelby resident and longtime public official District Judge William Maxwell Black died Christmas Day at a Great Falls hospital after heart treatment. Born 1880 in North Dakota, he moved to Montana in 1911 and served in Shelby as teacher, attorney, school board member, city councilor and city attorney before becoming district judge in 1957. He leaves a widow Pauline, two daughters and a grandson.
Firefighters responded to a trailer home fire on Monday morning at the East End area. Mrs Weist and others reported furnace thermostat trouble as the cause, with investigation citing a gas leak and equipment failure.

Postal rates rise Monday January 7 as Congress authorizes higher charges. Chateau to city letter mail becomes four cents, postcards four cents, airmail eight cents, and parcel air rates up eight cents. Second class rates include county newspapers at one cent per pound, with new five cent coils and books. books offer a slight decrease.
The Choteau volunteer Fire Department will host its Annual Firemen's Ball Monday at the Choteau Park Pavilion starting 9 p.m. Admission is $1.50 per couple. Fire Chief Bud Taylor warns about fire danger from holiday trees and urges quick disposal, away from heat, with lights off when away.
The Choteau Jaycees will hold their after Christmas tree cleanup on Sunday January 6. Spokesman Tom Brown said residents should place trees in alleys for collection and the group will haul them to the city dump to burn.

Wheat fell 14 percent below normal, but barley and hay, irrigated crops, and rye boosted yields. durum and spring wheat set records amid drought and rust losses, while oats, flaxseed, beans, beets, and potatoes fluctuated, hay topped five million tons and prices varied.
