Parcel Post Regulations Introduce New Zone Rates

The Parcel Post system goes into effect nationwide at year start with a zone method. Zones are defined by 50 mile radius circles, starting at 5 cents per first pound and rising to 12 cents for farthest deliveries. Postage stamps are red 1 1/8 by 11 16 inches with United States parcel post and various denominations each having distinct designs.

Road Supervisor Fined In Montana Case

Jury awards G W Smith two thousand dollars in Helena district court against Henry Zimmer, former road supervisor near Augusta, for injuries from a cut off road causing a wagon to overturn. The Interior Department plans 188 thousand six hundred dollars for Glacier Park in 1914, chiefly for roads bridges and a stage road from St Mary to Swiftcurrent River, with total park funding rising to 733 thousand and a half.

Pleasant Ferris Family Reunion in Montana Deepens Ties

Edward Henry Ferris of Oaks North Dakota visited Montana for a pleasure trip to the “Preas ure State” and joined a large Ferris family gathering at Jno C Ferris’s Burton Benvuh farm on Sunday December 8. He reunited with brother Harry and sister Josephine (Mrs Hauxwell) after seventeen years and enjoyed an abundant feast and entertainment by the younger generation. The event included music, opera and a duet by Miss Mary Johnson and Courtney Hauxwell, with plans for future performances and the guest’s brief stay in Montana before returning to his duties and sending his son Harry to school locally.

County High School Loses Close Battle at Belt High

The county high school boys edged by Belt High 32 to 28 in a tight contest. Teton Wilson led Belt with strong forward play while Crawford Dorden and Monroe Goesack contributed on the guards and center positions.

Montana Wesleyan Offers Teachers Review Course

The Montana Wesleyan University in Helena announces a new Teachers Review Course to aid spring school instructors and 8th grade retraining. Beginning January 3, Prof. C W Tenney will oversee a practical review of new textbooks to ready participants for February exams and real classroom use.

Railroad Extends Line From Bynum Toward Dupuyer

The Great Falls and Beltton County Railway proposes extending its line from Bynum to near Dupuyer with a five tunnel route and grades under one percent. Directors approved the amendment on December 23 in Great Falls. Survey work continues between Choteau and Power with about two thirds graded.

Teton County Montana Commissioners invite sealed proposals to sell 2000000 of bonds dated January 1 1933 bearing five percent interest payable semi annually. Bonds 1000 each mature January 1 1933 with prepayment option after January 1 1928. News from Blain county reports a $70 000 court house project and efforts to consolidate state educational institutions in one city. A 750 foot bridge will be built across the Missouri river at Great Falls by the local power company. Senator Dixon introduced a bill selling old Fort Assinniboine reservation lands at $1 25 per acre with 640 acres at $2 50. Governor Norris pushes a national gambling crackdown after Richmond talks. Arrangements advance for Stillwater county primaries before a March 15 election. William James pleads guilty to first degree arson in Roundup and is sentenced to five years hard labor for burning the Goldstein building at Melstone.
