Colonization Campaign Launched for Bynum Project

A colonization plan announced in St Paul by E C Leedy of the Great Northern railway offers 40 acre tracts at 27 50 per acre in the Bynum irrigation district. Purchasers pay one third of crops or a quarter of beets or potatoes annually toward principal with 6 percent interest, with options to pay off the balance in cash or a mortgage after ten years.

Holiday business strong for merchants despite slow prelude

Local merchants report Christmas trade overall good though not heavy early in the season. Weather delayed the rush, with Chateau stores only normal until the past ten days when sales picked up. some shops stay open tonight and tomorrow evening for late shoppers.

A justice court jury found for defendant in a wage case brought by Arthur Cline against Robert Fairburn on the Fairburn ranch north of Chateau. Cline claimed 275 dollars due for labor. defense argued Cline came broke and lived there in exchange for work. Bailiff held Cline for federal warrant on illicit still on the Blackfeet reservation. deputy marshal to arrive to take him into custody.

Ex Senator Myers Appointed To Supreme Court Bench

Helena December 16 Henry L Myers of Billings former U S senator Montana has been named associate justice of the state supreme court by Governor Erickson to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Holloway Warren Toole of Great Falls is named to serve the unexpired term ending January 3. The appointment makes Toole the youngest Montana supreme court member at 33.

A large audience of parents and friends filled the high school auditorium last night for a grade school Christmas program featuring instrumental and vocal numbers and a two part operetta titled The Christmas Wait. The grade school orchestra, under Miss Winifred Ulsaker, accompanied the show.

Stroke Fatal to Nellie R Brown in Long Beach Home

Mrs Nellie R Brown former Teton County superintendent of schools and Chateau teacher died of a stroke at her Long Beach California home. She would have been 67 next month after a week of illness following paralysis that left one side of her body numb. Survived by three daughters Mrs H D Robison Mrs Albert Carlson and Mrs Mike Powers a son Rowe Brown two sisters and a brother. Funeral held in Long Beach with burial there.

Mrs. Dave Giboney formerly Miss Mary Longmuir and her three year old son David Francis Ord arrive Tuesday from Empalme Sonora Mexico. Wellenstein Buys Coffey Interest In Montana Ranch

John Wellenstein has bought G M Coffey half of the Coffey and Wellenstein ranch north of Pendroy. The 5200 acre beach land property is valued at about 20 dollars an acre with 2000 sheep 100 horses and other stock. The partnership ends in a friendly dissolution with Coffey moving to Chateau and Wellenstein running the ranch with his sons Nick and Bill.

Illness Fatal to Four Year Old Bynum Boy

Friends of Mr and Mrs Charles A Minnier of Bynum mourn the death of their son Charles Rowell age three years eight months at Chateau hospital. He died from nephritis following a prior hernia operation after initially improving. He was the couple’s only son, who had previously lost another son. Funeral services are set for this afternoon at Connor chapel at two o'clock.

Clerk Blanche M. Jacobs issued licenses on December 20 to James Carl Brewster and Marie LaRance of Chateau and Clarence Larnard Drew and Sadie Rosabelle Harrison of Dupuyer.
