Nixon signs year around daylight saving time into law
President Nixon signed a bill making daylight saving time year round for two years starting January 6, with clocks moving ahead at 2 am. The measure could save an estimated 150,000 barrels of oil daily and may cut electricity and heating demand by up to 3 percent, especially in the north. An executive order sets up review for regional time-zone exceptions and broader energy legislation faces swift congressional action before Christmas recess.
