Land at Ft. Peck Opened for Settlement and Irrigation

Senator Dixon introduces a bill to open Fort Peck Indian Reservation lands in Valley county to settlement after allotment. The measure follows a treaty agreement with Indians and allows surplus lands to be settled, with irrigation possible if feasible. B I Smelter Returns to Full Capacity at Great Falls

The Amalgamated Copper Co will concentrate its work at the Great Falls plant which will operate at full capacity. All mines except Boston and Montana are closed and Washoe smelter suspends. Amalgamated output will be treated at Great Falls with extra Montana Central train crews to handle increased business.

Judge Grants An Injunction In Lumber Rate Dispute

Judge Wa H Hunt of the federal court enjoined the Great Northern Railway from collecting excess lumber rates until the Interstate Commerce Commission rules on the new rate. Seven Montana lumber manufacturers sought relief. A $25 000 bond is due December 14 to indemnify the railway, with potential bond increases. The case raises jurisdiction questions over ICC rate actions and temporary restraining orders. The matter will go to Washington and then possibly to the U S Supreme Court.

National Rivers and Harbors Congress Opens

Judge Harney Dies Suddenly at 46 in Dead Butte

Judge BE W Harney aged 46 died of a hemorrhage while en route to the hospital at Dead Butte. He served on the district court bench for years and presided over Heinze Amalgamated cases. He later alleged Amalgamated lawyers offered a 209000 bribe for a new trial, which he refused.
