Shriners Initiate Montana Class At Annual Meeting

At the Helena gathering the Shriners of Montana started a class of 125 members amid concerns that funds for state educational institutions will fall short next year. The Montana Railway Commission’s annual report to Governor Ferris cites 90 deaths and 595 injuries on Montana lines last year, with 41 of the deceased employed. Large sapphires from Moore weighing 4069 pounds were shipped to the New Mine Sapphire Syndicate in London from mines near Utica. Olé Jacobson, a poor ranch hand employed?

Incorporation Petition Filed For Chateau Town

The board of county commissioners granted the incorporation petition for Chateau after securing more than the required signatures. J. B. Malmin was appointed to census the area, with the next meeting in January to decide if the town will be formed and to set a thirty day notice for the election. If approved, officials will be elected, likely around the regular April municipal election, though some adjacent landowners are disappointed they were not included. The territory is limited to a square mile under current law.

The Grange will meet at the H H Bloecher ranch Saturday Dec 21 at 2 6 ock important business will be transacted so all members are requested to be present. The home of Mrs Amelia Schneider Was completely destroyed by the last Sunday morning. The origin of the fire is not known.

Railroads Progress Report Across Great Falls to Chateau Survey

B E Palmer superintendent of construction reports steady grading on the Milwaukee railway line between Great Falls and Chateau. A third camp was opened near Choteau with large crews, while Camp No 1 north of Choteau and Camp No 2 under Sub Contractor Fraser run extensive operations. Surveyor C I Hexley set up a camp at Vaughn as grading advances toward Great Falls.

Paper Money to be Smaller in Redesign Plan

Improvements at the Cash Store Hodgskiss block

Extensive improvements have been completed this week to the Cash Store quarters in the Hodgskiss block. A large wareroom has been added in the rear and the back room becomes a neat salesroom. The front room will hold handsome show cases and new shelving. An even larger stock is expected. Mr Roberson prepares for Chateau’s growth.

Mrs Nat Collins of Ghoteau Montana known as the cattle queen arrives in San Francisco spending the winter in California. She recounts years guiding the cattle business after her husband fell ill and notes her early life from Rockford to Denver and the Bozeman trail into Montana.

Great Falls will unite its two telephone systems as Montana States company secures a majority of Great Falls Automatic stock. Connection set for January 1 with no rate increase and minimal service disruption. Rural lines to Cascade Conrad and toll lines of the Great Falls Independent exchange included in the deal.

Fire Destroyed Homestead Home of Mrs Schneider

Fire swept the homestead claimed by Mrs Schneider in the Eyrand area last Sunday. The dwelling and contents were destroyed with no one at the house. her two sons, working nearby, could not explain the cause. Neighbors report a man seen around the house shortly before the blaze.
