W H Ameline aged 53 born in Choteau died Friday December 1 at Choteau hospital after a brief paralytic stroke. Born December 11, 1886, he homesteaded near Choteau, worked 25 years for W E Hodgskiss, married Victoria Swan January 1, 1910, with three children Francis Ameline, William Henry Ameline Jr., and Mary Jarvis. Survived by four brothers and one sister. funeral Monday December 4 at 10 p m at Catholic church with Rev J F Schulte. burial at Chateau cemetery. pallbearers listed. Relatives from a distance attended.

The county treasurer reports that the first half of 1939 yielded $208,440.51 in tax collections with a 52.57 percent overall collection rate. Real estate payments totaled $181,247.35 and personal property $27,193.16. Delinquent tax collections are not yet available, but overall totals exceed last year by about $18,000.
Montana reduced bonded indebtedness by 10 500 in the first 11 months of the year. State Treasurer Ray Shannon reported 126 508 50 paid in interest on bonds during the period. Retired bonds included State normal college 4 000 Eastern Montana normal 5 000 state industrial school 1 000 funding bonds 500.
After a business survey in Chateau the American Legion Auxiliary schedules a spelling bee for Friday January 12 at the high school auditorium. Each sponsor business backs an entrant with cash prizes for top spellers. Local talent will perform and a small admission fee will benefit the Auxiliary.
Maynard Hospital reports a son born to Mr and Mrs Laury Loney of Augusta on Friday. Dismissals include Mr and Mrs Pearson and daughter of Fairfield. The Teton Bulldogs opened the season with a 43 21 win over Brady on the local floor and a 35 23 victory over Shelby on the road. LeDesky led with 16 points, Schmitz hit 5 of 6 free throws, and strong defense and versatile reserves powered both games despite limited practice due to gym construction.
Choteau meets the Browning Indians on the local floor tomorrow night with a 7:30 preliminary and 8 o clock main game. Browning won its only season game thus far against Dutton, while Choteau beat Browning twice last year. Season tickets are still available for savings.
In a tight Shelby game start, Choteau held Brady to eight first half points while scoring 26. The game featured heavy fouling with 21 fouls on Choteau and 15 on Brady as substitutes rotated throughout the second half.

The Montana Supreme Court reversed the district court and declared Albert O. Peterson elected sheriff of Teton County by 950 to 949 over J. L. Billings. The ruling allows Peterson to take office after potential rehearing and remittiter, with Justice Erickson leading the opinion and Justice Morris dissenting.
Cha teau post office readies for Christmas mail with new final mailing dates by zone. Postmaster Gibson Monkman warns on stamped cards and directs holiday greeting etiquette and extended hours during the double holiday week.
Miss Margaret Nagle, county Red Cross chairwoman, said contributions are coming in well and that the county quota of 450 dollars will likely be reached with a personal goal of 500 dollars. Fairfield reported full, reaching its quota of 3100 with Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Thorne in charge. Collins surpassed its 25 dollar target with 336 dollars led by William Reiquam. Chateau already exceeded 200 dollars. more subscriptions expected before drive ends.
Positive reactors to the tuberculin test will be transported by bus to Great Falls for chest X-rays on Saturday Dec. 9. Students must arrive in Great Falls before 9 a.m. Those from Choteau, Fairfield, and Power will meet at designated locations and times. The tests and X-rays are funded by the county seal sale funds.
At the December 1 meeting Queen Rebecca elected officers for 1940. Noble Grand Ruth Monkman, Vice Grand Ollie Duiss, Secretary Birdie Carroll, and Treasurer Lena Gunther will be installed January 5. Mrs Exilda M Mitenban of Great Falls, Rebecca Assembly vice-president, scheduled a fryal visit November 15.
