The Chateau wrestling squad returns after a Thanksgiving break with meets at Cut Bank Conrad and Fairfield followed by a Fairfield Invitational. Coach Krahe's crew then charts a slate including Browning, Simms, and other Montana opponents through February. Coach Reistad's Chateau basketball team opens the 1976 77 season with Fort Benton host, freshmen and junior varsity games, and a non conference clash with Fort Benton highlighted by senior and junior players competing for starting spots.

Belt Fire hospitalizes Ken Brown after train derailment blast
Ken Brown former Chateau resident and son of Mr and Mrs Stanley Brown Sr is in Deaconess Hospital Great Falls with third degree burns from a propane and gasoline fire that destroyed several Belt buildings after a Burlington Northern freight derailment. He was treated after being hurled from his burning fuel truck near Farmers Union Oil Co. and later moved to intensive care. The blast killed a 72 year old man and a 17 year old boy and damaged multiple businesses including Belt Building Supply and the Belt Valley Times. Volunteers and firefighters helped contain the blaze and prevent further harm to downtown Belt.

State Senator Gordon McOmber of Fairfield will again preside as Senate president in the 1977 Montana session which begins January 3. Democrats chose Terry Murphy as floor leader, while Jean Turnage became Republican floor leader. The split 25-25 ends traditional majority minority titles. In the House Rep. Robert Marks of Clancy is minority leader and John Driscoll of Hamilton is Speaker.

The Teton County Winter Fair comes to the Chateau pavilion December 4 and 5 with hours 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and 12 noon to 5 pm Sunday. Tables host vendors from Fairfield Dut ton Power and Great Falls selling crafts and crafts related items. Church groups sell Christmas cookies and lesse. Methodist ladies offer pie and coffee Saturday. Hospital auxiliary provides sandwiches and hot drinks with lunch both days.

BN Railway To Close Depot At Chateau After Retirement
Burlington Northern plans to close its Chateau depot after agent Ralph Cole retires after 38 years with Great Northern and BN Railways. A public hearing is set for Monday at 1 p.m. at the depot for testimony pro and con. After closure a mobile unit based in Dutton will serve the area daily with no service reduction.

Icy Roads Spark Multiple Thanksgiving Weekend Crashes
A series of accidents occurred over the Thanksgiving weekend on icy highways. A Sunday collision west of Augusta involved a 1976 Ford Pinto wagon driven by Donald Hasty and a 1971 Ford 4x4 pickup. no serious injuries reported. A Monday crash near Chateau on Montana Secondary 221 involved a 1972 Dodge pickup and Tracy Polhans. both Polhans and passenger Brian Gibson were uninjured as the vehicle rolled onto its top. A Tuesday morning rear collision near Chateau on U.S. 89 between Laura Stott and Tim Jenson occurred after a locked 4x4 transfer case stopped a pickup on the slippery road.
