Wheat Stabilization Program Referendum Increases Awareness
Lyall Schaefer of the Stabilization Committee said a rare plan to accept requests to participate in the 1963 wheat stabilization program will be announced soon. The referendum approved marketing quotas on the 1962 crop with 10 630 votes for and 2 680 against in the county 50 percent turnout. The program cuts 10 percent of next year’s wheat acreage and provides price support payments of 45 percent of the county price support times the farm’s adjusted normal yield and diverted acreage. Notices with the 45 and 0 percent rates will be mailed to producers shortly as they decide their participation and acreage to remove from wheat production next year.
