Melon Feast Sparks Big Crowd At Local Festival

A Civic Lions Club event served 2500 pounds of melons to 500 to 1000 people, with extras scavenging town for more fruit. Mayor Burns and locals joined in the serving as Johnny Peterson and others provided vocal entertainment. Afterward Chateau beat Conrad 11 to 3 in a baseball game, followed by street sports and a brief fire scare at Rice Auto Court.

Oldest Teton settler Mrs. Connor dies in California

Mrs. C H Connor longtime Montana pioneer native of Tennessee died last Friday at 6 35 p m at her sister’s Long Beach California home from paralysis stroke. The Connor brothers Alden and V S notified Dr R T O Neill who treated her after a prior stroke. Funeral arrangements were being made as her husband awaited arrival.

John Robise Brings Publicity to Choteau

John Robise Ison travels to Detroit as one of Montana’s two boys invited by Fisher Body to join 112 peers from across the U S and Canada for a prize contest. The Detroit Times reports scholarships of 5000 dollars each for four first prizes amid craft showcases, judges, and notable guests from America and Canada.

Lions to give away auto at benefit dance

Chateau Lions Club announces a benefit dance on October 15 with a door prize of a brand new V‑8 Ford sedan valued at 680 dollars. Tickets cost 1 dollar, drawing at 11 p.m. for the car, plus 100 dollars in cash prizes for top ticket sellers.

Sunday at Fairfield the locals defeated the Fairfield nine 9 to 1. Dale pitched well for the locals in a strong duel with Ario, while Ario struck out more batters. Blastic, Harles, and Harris drove in runs as the locals built a lead from the third inning onward.

Damage in Rice Auto Court cottage fire on Saturday

A cottage in the Rice Auto Court sustained damage Saturday afternoon after an unknown origin fire. Occupants Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hanusa were away. B H Fisher from Teton Service used a bucket to control flames before arrival of help. A cupboard and maple floor damaged. repairs by Ole Holland began Monday.

The Tuesday Great Northern train now departs at 8 15 a m instead of the evening run with a return from the city at 11 45 a m A steam engine replaces the electric for this service and will stay the same while late summer and fall livestock shipping continues The change aims to improve local arrangements for shippers and connections east Other weekday schedules are unchanged.
