About 25 local citizens expected at a Friday 9 a.m. hearing in Conrad where the state railroad and public service commission will question Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. on why its Cha teau gas rates should be reduced. Consumers may attend and contact local organizers for transportation.
The second annual all county free barn dance will be held at the Legion pavilion this Saturday night in Teton county. Doors open with a 9:30 halt of roller skating and dancing from 10. Stan Smith and his band together with Edwards Pat Likkers will provide alternating music, plus a 11:30 floor show before continuing to 2 am. Prizes include longest distance traveled, costume prizes for men and women, a prize waltz, and prize spot dances. Everyone is invited to attend in old western attire.
A large group from Choteau Masons and Eastern Star lodges left for Great Falls to attend the 75th annual Montana Masons Grand Lodge convention opening yesterday. The gathering will unite state members and feature an arranged program for the conclave.
Donkey mounted softball exhibition titled the Funniest Show on Earth to feature the Fats versus the Leans at 8 30 pm under flood lights at the park diamond. Donkey polo rodeo and circus acts headline with Madame Queen the $10 000 trained donkey and Arts donkey Prof. Proceeds benefit the local softball league.

G L Banks the new proprietor of Banks Funeral Home formerly Roberts Funeral Home is named county coroner by the county commissioners to succeed Charles Roberts who resigned. Banks previously served as Glacier county coroner while in Cut Bank and moved to Choteau to take over the local funeral home.
Kenneth Eugene Roberson of Great Falls and Bette Jeanne Cowan of Helena Mont were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage last Saturday afternoon with Rev R F Vick reading the ceremony. Attendants were Ruth Wilberg as bridesmaid and Edward C. Wren as best man. The bride’s sister Alma Thilbodeau of San Diego also attended. The bride wore white net and the bridesmaid pale blue net. The couple will reside in Great Falls.
Two licenses issued last Saturday August 12 list Jim Pocha 18 of Gillman and Lois Shouquette 16 of Browning. Kenneth Roberson 22 of Great Falls and Bette Cowan 18 of Redstone are the other applicants. Justice J G Jackson performed the ceremony with Rev R F Vick assisting.
Lions club runs the annual 49ers celebration and will not require whiskers from residents this year. Liang members must wear western garb starting September 1 or face kangaroo court. The celebration is planned for Friday and Saturday September 29 and 30 with new features and games to raise funds for city improvements.
Mrs. Karl Bishop hosts her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Flickinger of Dubuque Iowa and her brother Mr. Don Flickinger his wife and children Jan and Cynthia during a family visit.
The Holt 4-H Fair at Chateau High School on August 31 and September 1 features a county championship baseball game, a big parade with all clubs represented, and a 1 15 p.m. auditorium program with 4-H demonstrations and awards. About 400 members participate. honors include blue red and white ribbons for home economics exhibits and prize money after records are complete. Entries due by August 28. livestock and poultry in place by 9 a.m. Sept 1 with removal after 5 p.m. Sept 1. Proceeds from the Friday dance support telegraph expenses.
An evening of fun at the sixth annual water carnival and swimming meet features a bathing beauty contest to choose Miss Chateau 1939. The event, at 8 30 p m, includes goldfish catch races, swimming races across classes, diving events, and a life saving demonstration with bronze medals for winners. Judges from the Lions club pool committee will be impartial, and entry signups are underway with Stan Smith.
