Second Annual Golf Tourney: Is Scheduled
The Chateau Country Club invites players to the second annual invitational golf tournament on Sunday August 5 at the local course. Registration closes at 9 am with 18 hole medal play for men and nine holes for women in top flights. A driving and pitching contest accompanies the event. Last year drew 46 men and 15 women. this year more players from Shelbys and other towns are expected, including 40 golfers from Shelbys.

Amy Vaughn Browder, 85, died Monday in Teton Memorial Hospital after about a year of illness. Born November 12, 1876 in Ashland Ohio, she lived with her daughter in Leesburg. Survived by daughter Marguerite Hanusa, son J Erroll Vaughn of Ridgewood New Jersey, two grandchildren and a great grandchild. Robert Trumbull of East Glacier pleaded guilty before Justice Bill Irwin to uttering and delivering a fraudulent check at Dirkes Phillips 66 station in Fairfield. Teton County 4-H beef club members shined at the Great Falls state fair with 20 of 23 fat steers earning blue ribbons and three red. Five steers competed for grand champion with a Liberty county steer taking the top prize. Caralynn Weist Kaylene Larson and Coy Davidson won first in their fat steer classes, and the five-steer team won first in its class. Coy Davidson also won first in the breeding heifer division and earned a silver belt buckle from the Montana Bank of Great Falls.

C D Trexler, 56, of Bynum, died last Wednesday in St Marys Hospital Conrad after about two months with cancer. Known as an agate wholesaler, he raised Appaloosa horses on his Bynum ranch. Born June 6 1906 in Cincinnati Ohio he married Marion Nehring in Covington Kentucky. Survived by widow two sons Clifford Victor and David Lee of Bynum plus two grandchildren. Recent rains gave temporary relief to the Rocky Mountain division of the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Fire danger remained high with a second fire on Huxley Creek quickly contained by a Gates Park two man crew. Weekend warming forecasts raised fire risk back toward normal. danger index readings stood at 34 Tuesday and 48 for the weekend, with a floor moisture index of five. William Jacob Van Setten 76 of Choteau died Monday at his home of a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Choteau Methodist Church with Rev. Crowe and Rev. Gravdal. He was born April 14 1886 in Driebergen Holland and had lived in the area since 1951 with family in Fairfield Farmington and Bole. Survivors include wife Alida and four sons Karl John Louie Henry two sisters and a brother. Burial in Choteau cemetery.

Truck Drivers Injured In Dillon Tanker Crash
Laurence Lodmell 28 and Melvin Neilsen 31 were in a fiery tanker crash near Dillon. The rig carrying aviation gasoline left the road, rolled over and burned. Lodmell in satisfactory condition, moved from Butte to Sacred Heart Miles City last Tuesday. Lodmell is nephew of Mrs. Al Jaumette and worked in the Choteau area.

Ray Yeager Heads to National High School Rodeo Finals
Ray Yeager of Chateau will compete in the National High School Rodeo in Valentine Nebraska August 15 to 19.
