Fairfield Youth Killed in Highway Crash Near Choteau
Andrew T. Austad 22 of Fairfield died when his 1942 Plymouth left Highway 88 near Choteau. He was believed to have fallen asleep while speeding, rolled and ejected from the car. Austad, born in Fairfield, a wartime veteran, operated a ranch and will be buried after VFW services in Fairfield.

Fairfield Man Rites Held Yesterday at Lutheran Church
Funeral services for Christian Field age 73 of Fairfield were conducted yesterday at the Lutheran church officiated by the Rev Gravdal. Burial followed at Chateau cemetery with Banks Funeral Home in charge. Field born in Norway came to America in 1885 and settled at Mad ion on later moving to Teton county. He is survived by a son Clifford Field of Seattle and several brothers and sisters including Aton Field of Mt Horeb Wisconsin Thea Danielson of Ekalaka Montana Carrie Stabbins of Seattle Anna Larson Wentworth Wisconsin Mrs Axel Jensen Snoqualmie Washington and a niece Mrs Desper from Milestain attended the funeral.

Rain in the past two months improves prospects for a strong wheat crop in Teton County. Hail remains the main risk, but yesterday’s .44 inch rainfall at Chateau and 1.25 inches in July underlie favorable growing conditions. Extension Agent Raymond Kelly notes June moisture at 2.18 inches with widespread county rainfall.

Sheriff and Patrolman Question Suspects After Fights
Sheriff and Undersheriff questioned three men held at the party jail after fistfights on main street last night. A morning brawl prompted Sheriff to anticipate additional arrests to curb disturbance. Six Year Old Huffman Suffers Minor Skull Fracture
James Huffman son of Mr and Mrs J Burr Huffman was found unconscious near the Chateau pool on Saturday afternoon. Bob Armstrong and W J Shirley notified his parents and moved him to the hospital where doctors reported a slight skull fracture. He is progressing nicely after an accidental bicycle fall.

Bond election Aug 6 could shape city future
Chateau residents, merchants and officials urged turnout for the August 6 bond vote to fund a sewage disposal plant, groundwater sewers, a 500 000 gallon reservoir and new water mains. If approved, 19 000 will extend city water to several homes and spur future residential extensions. Polls open 8 am to 6 pm at City Hall and the Legion club.

Taylor Company To Drill Pendroy Area
E P Jarvis and A Marcell of Decatur Illinois have contracted the Taylor company to drill a test well on the Flanagan farm near Pendroy. The Goggin Wellenstein Pendroy structure has yielded oil at 150 barrels daily, with deeper horizons showing oil saturation. The current plan uses diagonal offset drilling to expose favorable sands more effectively. Jarvis Marcell hold several thousand acres of Pendroy leases.

Lightning Strikes Sabo House Damaging Transformer
A bolt of lightning struck the George Sabo residence on Chateau’s south side causing fire damage to wires and a Montana Power transformer. Power was cut on two streets for several hours while Frank Stearns and Cecil Huffman repaired the line.

Rancher Hans Huseth Killed by Lightning Near Fairfield
RANCHER Hans Huseth 70 of Fairfield was killed instantly Monday afternoon while standing in a grainary during a thunderstorm. A bolt struck a nearby wire, sending an electrical charge through the grainary frame. His brother, sacking grain in an adjoining room, was unharmed. Huseth, a bachelor, had lived near Fairfield since 1908. burial will be at St. Paul cemetery. Survivors include a sister in Madison and nine brothers.

McGinty Funeral Held Saturday At Catholic Church
Hannah Maria McGinty 73 of Choteau died last Thursday morning in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Josephs parish church with burial at Choteau cemetery. Survivors include sister Margaret Sullivan and a large extended family. Pallbearers were Paul Mathis Ted Paulus George Tuel Roger Wayn Steve Shengden and W W Scott. Relatives traveled from Conrad and Great Falls for the service.

Two Forest Fires Extinguished At Teton Sun River
Chief Forest Ranger Jack Hinman says two lightning fires were quickly put out in Sun River region. Aid from Gleason and Baker ranches plus local riders helped extinguish the Teton and Bear Top fires during an electric storm. Rainfall this week reduced fire danger and forest crews plan cable bridges at Sun River canyon to aid pack stock and future hunts.
