Local Board for the County of Teton Montana notifies the listed individuals that under the Selective Service Act of 1917 they are called for military service. They must report for a physical examination on August 9, 1917 at 9 a.m. Exemption or discharge requests must be filed within seven days after posting. Penalties for evading registration are noted.
War Department warns exemption boards they must serve national interests over individuals. Provost Marshal General Crowder says exemptions alter risk of death for others and boards act for the government, not private concerns. President Wilson orders careful affidavits to avoid favored exemptions and preserve national defense.
