A. B. Jones offers a large supply of first class poles posts building logs and fire wood at reasonable rates at the Pine Ridge crossing of the Teton He is cutting timber again this winter and requests orders for any special dimensions be left at the Hodgskiss hotel for prompt attention.
A new oil company named Cassidy Swift Current Oil Co is formed to operate in the Swift Current district with 1,500,000 dollars in par value stock. It owns 320 acres of patented land near existing wells and plans to drill its first well within half a mile of the district’s initial oil well. Key investors include C. M. Webster J. T. Armington F G Heldt E J Bowman M H Luther Ira Myers W S Frary A Nathan William Roberts T C King J B Keppkel M D Cassidy T B Brady and Matt Duna.
Attorney General Galen issues an opinion responding to Valley county attorney Kerr. Indians on reservations do not need licenses to hunt there, but off-reservation hunting requires a resident’s license. Waite residents and government employees hunting on reservations must hold licenses.
The Teton county board of commissioners granted Ernest Crutcher of Great Falls and associates a forty year electric railway franchise. The project includes tracks and power lines along county roads starting at Chateau court house, with at least twenty miles built within four years and operations slated after construction.
Thomas McDevitt was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary for grand larceny in Great Falls. He stole $34 in cash and two watches from S. M. McDonald on April 4. He pleaded guilty in Cascade county district court and received the sentence from Judge Leslie after no objections. An attorney had been appointed to represent him but with little to do.
Helena April 24 Judge Hunt in the United States court made perpetual the restraining order issued about a year ago by Judge Knowles enjoining County Treasurer Heyfroe of Missoula County from selling for tax on the property of certain half breeds living on the Svathead Indian reservation. The case involved many new legal points and the decision is of far reaching importance It is expected Missoula County will appeal to the United States circuit court of appeals.
