Pend Ored Irrigation District Plan Discussed At Burton
A preliminary meeting of farmers at the Burton school house backed plans to create a 10 000 acre irrigation district on Burton bench. Yette Baker and Harry Stevenson led the effort with Phil J Cole as attorney. The project envisions a new dam to store 4 600 acre feet of water at about 12 000 dollars and selling 25 000 dollars in bonds to finance it. A petition signed by a majority of freeholders would establish the district with hopes of a quick court filing. If approved, the system could provide enough water to irrigate 16 days across the entire area during low river conditions. A second meeting will be held to finalize details.
