The American Legion post joins 95 state posts in observing Round-up Week from April 21 to 28. Commander Dewey Steele says the drive will contact World War veterans to inform them of benefits from legislation and Legion programs. A statewide mass meeting is set for April 24 at 8:00 p.m. to coincide with other posts.
Alton Borchert narrowly escaped losing his right arm last Thursday while oiling a drag line at the Pishkun reservoir. The machine surged while his arm was in the oil hole, breaking both bones and tearing flesh to the shoulder before a bystander stopped the apparatus.
A Browning group including high school band members and adults travels by car through Chateau to Augusta to perform that day. The party is led by F. A. Curtain with T. E. Scriver of Browning Mercantile, J. L. Sherburn of Sherburn Mercantile, Hilmore Reiks of the Browning faculty, and Leo Brown among the adults.
M. K. Luther announces James Anderson Pendray Lamar Burke Bynum and Vernard Olson Fairfield will form Teton county high school stock judging team. They will compete in Bozeman from April 29 to May 3 against 25 Smith-Hughes teams for a chance to represent Montana at the Pacific International.
The county board of commissioners unanimously passed a resolution to place a 5 mill levy increase for road and bridge funding on the upcoming primary ballot set for July 15. The article cites current deficits, outstanding warrants, and interest costs, arguing a higher levy is needed to properly build and maintain roads.
Plans for the invitational track meet at Teton county high school advance with eight of twelve invited nearby schools replying positively. New president Miss Ruby A Miller announced the calico dance for May 9 with Miss Ruth Bryson as dance chair.
At the Teton county high school board meeting on the first Thursday in April the resignation of T. B. Irwin as instructor in history was accepted. Irwin, a University of Montana graduate, has served three years on the faculty and plans further study for a higher degree at another institution.
Teton county shared in 1929 revenues from incomes and rents of school lands totaling 16771.90 dollars as apportioned by County Superintendent Anna E. Stafford. The per child rate was 8.42808 dollars, with a 790.83 dollar increase from last year. District No. 1 Chateau led receipts with 449 pupils, followed by No. 28 Dutton and No. 21 Fairfield.
County Agent Robert Clarkson kicked off this week’s 4-H effort across Teton County. He aims to announce club locations for 1960, expand the number of clubs, and double total membership while introducing a fourth year for girls sewing clubs focusing on wardrobe projects and cost analysis. Last year 97 youths participated.
Mrs Eliza St. Claire 39 of this city died Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Catholic church. She leaves six children from two marriages Charley Brewster and Jerry St. Claire among her survivors. She was a daughter of Jerry Rosette and sister of Tom Rosette of Choteau.
Rev. J. F. Schulte, pastor, returned from Helena after attending holy week devotions. Rev. Br. O'Connor, assistant in the parish, departed for Helena following the pastor's return.
County Agent Robert Clarkson released the third annual Teton County Outlook. About 500 copies mailed cover nine sections on finances crops beef cattle and more. It notes 1929 bank deposits down from 1928 while loans rose and predicts tax relief possible after bond issues.
