Wheat referendum offers two choices for 1964 programs
Wheat growers face a spring referendum on two 1964 programs proposed by Mrs. Herak of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation State Committee. Program A would limit production to market needs with about $2 per bushel price support, aiming to keep income similar to recent years. Program B would remove production limits, pay 50 percent parity about $1.20 per bushel, raise production and lower income. Technical details are being developed by the USDA with growers and grain interests. Major provisions include a national marketing quota of about 12 billion bushels and a national acreage allotment near 49.5 million acres, close to 1962 levels.
