Manila dispatch reports Filipino leaders Manuel Arqueles and Lt. Joseph Bernal delivering a flag of truce to General Otis for capitulation terms. MacArthur's troops routed a large rebel force, with 4,000 Led by General Luna engaging Nebraskan lines before breaking.
Thurman, a well known Black man, was ambushed near Leesburg, Georgia, at about nine miles from town, and shot multiple times. Authorities say the attack was revenge for previous lynching suspects tied to the Meroney case. Thurman had vowed to aid capture and was warned his life would be targeted.
In United States Court at Greenville nine McCormick citizens face conspiracy charges. Tolbert and his wife testified while James Tolbert denied part in the Phoenix election plot. The case involves a town banishment and a stamped notice served to Tolbert.
A massive cyclone struck Kirksville Missouri at 6 20 PM on Thursday leaving a wide death path through the town and injuring well over a thousand. The American School of Osteopathy and local doctors organized rescue efforts as fires broke out and bodies were gathered in the undertaker’s hall. Reports mention at least thirty one known dead and about a hundred killed with a large number of buildings destroyed. Nearby towns Newton and Osawa also reported deaths and storm damage with further winds and hail in Soldier Valley.
Capt. Coghlan, under fire for remarks about Germans at the Union League, received Navy orders from Washington to report aboard the Raleigh at once. He and ten officers were en route to Chauncey Depew’s Montauk Club banquet in Brooklyn when the telegram arrived.

Washington officials say after Manila fell the Filipinos have freely obtained ammunition from Hong Kong and Singapore and Europe. A strict Luzon naval patrol is in place with hope the supply will be cut off.
In Fairmount Park Philadelphia Miss Rosemary Sartoris grand daughter of General Grant unveiled a heroic equestrian statue of Ulysses S. Grant in the presence of President McKinley his wife and members of his cabinet. A large patriotic crowd filled the city with flags displayed everywhere as the event drew broad public interest.
The ninth International Sunday School Convention met in Atlanta with about 1 500 delegates and thousands of visitors. The first session in the Grand Opera house featured welcomes from Governor Candler and others, a large audience, and notable addresses. The Lesson Committee met to set the 1902 international lesson schedule and announced plans for the next meeting in St Louis. Field Workers Conference and Georgia Sunday School convention also convened at First Baptist and First Methodist churches with active remarks and committee appointments.
