At De Funiak last Saturday the Confederate Veterans chose Pensacola’s Gen. Warren Reese as Brigadier General to succeed the late W. D. Chipley. A committee including Capt. Frank Phillips Marianna Dr G P Henry De Funiak and A C Tippin Ferry Pass was named to draft resolutions on Col Chipley’s death.
A Tuesday night blaze at Geo W. Cook’s gunnery destroyed the gin house two gins and mill fixtures with about six bales of cotton and several tons of cotton seed. The saw mill and boiler were saved but the total loss runs around 1000 with no insurance. Cook has been in poor health for over a year and bedridden at times.
