The US transport New port arrived at Manila from Iloilo with dispatches to General Otis. General Miller reports all quiet at Iloilo with troops in Jaro and Molo suburbs. Business resumed, rice coming in, no fighting since February 12. Manila also quiet. heat causes discomfort, no casualties reported.
A Manila cable dispatch reports massive fires started Tuesday night by insurgents. American troops and volunteers fought fires amid street clashes in Tondo and Santa Cruz, with hundreds left homeless. Captain Robinson and three Minnesotans wounded. several soldiers injured overall. Fire gutted a large market and dozens of residences, while security measures and patrols were intensified through the morning.
Will Taylor and Fred Harris, two condemned men in Wilkes County for the murder of Convict Guard Jep Dennard, received a thirty day respite from Governor Cendler after a petition for mandamus nisi was filed in the state supreme court. The petition alleges Judge Seaborn Right of Wilkes Superior Court refused to sign the bill of exceptions.
