Stockholders of the St Andrews company will meet at the company office in St Andrews on Monday June 28 at 7:30 p.m. to elect five directors for the ensuing year and conduct other business as needed. The 1897 Vernon Florida convention of Washington County teachers and supervisors met June 10 and 11 to form a permanent county teachers association. A report of the committee outlined organization of two sections north and south, officer elections, meeting sites from Chipley to Vernon, and provisions for an executive committee and annual gatherings with counting of sectional meeting days as service.
The Washington County Teachers Association meeting in Chipley discussed compulsory education with speeches by A W Weeks and Prof Lipes. Votes showed strong support from teachers and varied by group for early legislative action. Officers announced for the coming year include Laura Sapp as President and Josephus Lipes as Secretary.
