Santiago de Cuba July 23 report that a letter claimed to be from General Garcia to General Shafter criticizing Cuban treatment and urging Garcia resignation was prepared by a newspaper correspondent Arms on General Castillo's staff. It states Garcia never saw the letter.

An advertisement claims Browns' Iron Bitters quickly and permanently cures neuralgia and all diseases of the blood nerves and stomach, noting its near quarter century of use and wide dealer availability. The piece then shifts to a wartime update praising American naval and land campaigns, arguing delays are overstated and predicting further actions post Porto Rico with lingering fever at Santiago.
An advertisement touts Cascarets Candy Cathartic as a guaranteed cure for constipation and liver sluggishness. It claims biliousness headaches fever piles and many ills are caused by indigestion and promotes a 1 box offer with price options and a free sample and booklet.
The June 1898 statement shows total outstanding county indebtedness of 810,442.86 with balances and uncollected taxes across funds. Special Fund and Building Fund accounts list various uncollected taxes and balances, with totals for Treasure and deficits. Attest: W. T. Horne and W. B. Lassiter, Chair and Clerk of the Board.
