Chilliwack to Host Pacific Northern Racing Circuit Meet

Chilliwack welcomes the Pacific Northern Racing Circuit with races on Friday and Saturday June 21 and 22. Local and outside horses enter a three heat format with purses including 500 for the 240 Trot Stake and 500 for the 2.14 Pace Stake. Entries close June 20 with fees and deductions as listed. James R. Chilliwack Board of Trade weighs publicity plan

The Chilliwack Board of Trade approved a Burnaby proposal to publicize the lower mainland and attract newcomers, proposing a Vancouver publicity officer and a Mission agent. The president would meet with municipalities to study the plan. Delegates also discussed fire insurance rates and a talk by the secretary on insurance.

Canadian Northern gains control of Great Northern line segment

Sir William Mackenzie informed Vancouver executives that Canadian Northern has acquired control of the Great Northern rail segment between Port Kells and the Fraser River bridge at New Westminster. The deal enables Port Mann improvements and requires an eight mile line section, with main eastward work already started at Port Kells.

Mr and Mrs G W Lillie are in Nanaimo for the week and attended the marriage of Miss Dolly May to Dr O G Ingham of Nanaimo. The marriage occurred on Wednesday. Mr J J Bowes gave a lecture to the High School matriculation class on Julius Caesar, part of this year’s studies.
