Tropical storm Flossy strengthened over the Gulf of Mexico and likely will become a hurricane. Hurricane watches were issued for parts of Texas and Louisiana as the storm, about 500 miles south of New Orleans, moved toward the Texas coast at 15 mph.

The Constitution party renewed its Texas Supreme Court bid to list W Lee O Daniel as its governor nominee on the November ballot. Joseph M Rummler filed a rehearing motion after the Sept 15 ruling barred him from the ballot citing he had voted in the Democratic primary and pledged support to the nominee. Mullins Services Held Saturday for Pearl Mullins
Last rites for Pearl Eunice Mullins 67 were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Childress Church of Christ with Harrell Collard officiating. Burial followed in Childress Cemetery. She died Thursday at the family home after a lengthy illness. Survived by husband two sons six daughters three brothers two sisters 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
