Weather Ties Lightning and Cool Front to City Damage
A strong cool front and lightning caused damage during a Sunday night storm in Texas. Winds up to 78 mph and nearly 2.5 inches of rain damaged the old City Bakery building and started a minor fire at the Ted Sheldon home at 400 Second Street in Se. Rain totals varied, with 2.30 inches at the High Point area and 1.23 inches at the downtown Childress gauge. Forecasters warned of showers through Tuesday, with cooler Panhandle temps noted in Dalhart.

Per Jacobsson of the IMF told the IMF World Bank conference that dollar defenses are strong and the U S price of gold should stay at 35 dollars an ounce. He backed the U S view that gold guarantees have no merit and warned against raising the price, saying it would devalue the dollar. He said confidence in the dollar and pound will be reinforced as the currency system remains stable and fears of a gold scramble are exaggerated.

Paducah Clerk William A Cogdell Laid To Rest
Funeral services for William A Cogdell 52 of Paducah were held at 4 p m Sunday at First Baptist Church Paducah. Interment followed in Paducah Cemetery. Cogdell died Saturday in Paducah hospital after a heart attack. He had served as a clerk in the Paducah post office since 1930. Survivors include his widow two sons and two daughters including Mrs Jim Bennett of Oklahoma City.

Amarillo doctors called the operation to repair a torn cartridge and ligaments in quarterback Mike Reeves right knee a success. Reeves, a Childress Bobcats sophomore QB, was injured on Friday in the Hamlin Childress game and was to undergo surgery at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.

Four Wrecks Investigated In August In Childress County
The Highway Patrol investigated four rural wrecks in Childress County in August. Property damage from these crashes totaled about 2 335 dollars. January through August 1962 saw 44 rural crashes with one death and 23 injuries, causing 37 480 dollars in property loss.
