The Department of Public Safety reports a missing object three and a half feet long and 280 pounds lost Friday evening southwest of Childress between here and Paducah or Matador. It is aluminum colored on a quarter of its exterior with greenish brown fiberglass elsewhere. Do not pick up or move it. contact Childress DPS or the Sheppard AFB Public Information Office in Wichita Falls if found. An aerial helicopter search is set to start Wednesday.

Traffic Accidents May Fall Below Estimates Over Holiday Weekend
United Press International reports the National Safety Council sees signs that traffic death tolls over the four day Memorial Day weekend may be below the 650 to 750 estimate. At mid morning 11 a.m. EDT the UPI tally lists 465 traffic deaths and 696 total fatalities with California highest at 42, while New York has 33, Michigan 30 and Texas 27. The weather was chilly and rainy across much of the country with storms from Colorado to Virginia and a broad swath of the south.
